Twelve years in Phuket, more than 2,400 private charters and a dedicated fleet for travellers who prefer to explore on their own terms and on no one else’s timetable
True luxury has never been about simply paying more. Nor has it really been about getting more in terms of quantity. At its best, luxury has always come down to quality and a genuinely personalised approach.
In travel today, that increasingly means having the freedom to shape the experience yourself. No race through a list of attractions. No pressure to fit every “must-see” into somebody else’s timetable. And no fear that missing one stop somehow means missing the destination.
Frequent travellers have already seen plenty. They no longer need to tick off another island or spend ten minutes in a beautiful bay simply to take a photograph.
It is far more appealing to stay longer somewhere you like. Move on when you do not. Watch the sunset without a crowd around you. Wake up the next morning to the sound of water against the hull.
At that point, the words excursion or tour start to feel rather inadequate. The traveller wants something personal and something of their own. That is the opposite of a scheduled tour, and it is precisely where Horizon Cruises Phuket operates.
The company has been working in Phuket for 12 years, focusing on private journeys rather than mass-market excursions. During that time, its team has organised more than 2,400 private cruises across the Andaman Sea and welcomed over 40,000 guests on board.
For a yacht operator, experience is one of the most important parts of the product. Beautiful photographs are easy to find. What they cannot tell you is which marina makes sense on a particular day, how long a crossing will really take, which yacht works for a family with children and which suits a larger group, where the sea is likely to be calmer or whether a planned route is realistic for the season.
That is why Horizon does not work on a simple “here is the catalogue, choose a yacht” basis. The team first establishes what kind of journey the guest actually wants, then selects the yacht and builds the route and format around it. Service is available in Russian, English and Thai, with support from the first enquiry through to detailed planning and agreement on the route, crew, onboard services and costs.
And all of that still needs one essential ingredient: the yachts themselves. Horizon Cruises currently operates three premium motor yachts, maintained to a standard that makes them feel ready for delivery from the shipyard.
The Horizon Cruises fleet
- Technema 89 “Say Yes” is an 89-foot motor yacht designed for larger groups. It can accommodate up to 30 guests on a day cruise and eight overnight, making it remarkably versatile: family trips, birthdays, private celebrations and multi-day journeys all fit comfortably within its profile.
- Beluga 88 sits close to superyacht territory not only in scale, but also in specification. Fresh from a 2026 refit, she makes an immediate impression on board. Capacity is up to 22 guests for day charters and eight overnight.
- Ferretti 80 “Sofia” brings the unmistakable character of Italian yacht building. Those familiar with Ferretti know the brand for its combination of style and performance, while the 80-foot layout provides the kind of comfort more readily associated with Mediterranean cruising. Sofia has four cabins and welcomes up to 25 guests by day and eight overnight.
The dedicated fleet is complemented by a trusted partner network of around 80 motor and sailing yachts, catamarans, superyachts and smaller private boats, giving the team the range to shape each journey around the guests.
The size of that network matters for one reason: the conversation can begin with which yacht is right, rather than simply which yacht happens to be available.
Phi Phi and Racha, Maiton and Hong Island, the Similans and Koh Kradan are names many Phuket visitors already know. Yet the sea feels very different when you choose both the boat and the route yourself.
That difference becomes clearest on multi-day cruises. Once the day boats leave, the bays change completely. There is no morning transfer back to the marina because you are already on the water. The journey can continue for as long as you want it to and unfold at the pace that suits you.
Perhaps that is one of the most convincing versions of Phuket luxury today. Not trying to see everything in three hours, but having the freedom to decide what you want to see, how long you want to stay and who you want to share the day with.
And this is where the distinction goes beyond mass-market tours or even simple yacht rental. The real value lies in trusting the journey to people who genuinely know these waters and have the fleet, network and experience to show them to you.
