Russvet, the First Russian Language School in Phuket

With so many different people calling Phuket home, the island is in constant demand for education services. At the forefront of this effort for the Russian community are Kamilla Medyarova and Nadezhda Zhuravleva, founders of Russvet School.

“Since 2017, we have been the first and only educational project to introduce Russian language and literature classes to the curricula of international schools in Southeast Asia. The influx of Russian-speaking visitors in 2022 opened new areas of education not limited to the Russian-speaking community. Thai nationals now also feel the need to learn Russian to cater to their foreign customers,” Kamilla says.

“We now teach Russian to Thai nationals, with intensive courses in basic Russian for service workers being in high demand,” she adds.

Back to the Russian community, Russvet is the only Phuket school following the official Russian curriculum and recognized by the Ministry of Education of Russia.

“Last year, we won a big international competition for the best Russian schools abroad, which opened the way to getting accreditation from the Ministry of Education of Russia. When formally complete, Russvet will be the sixth Russian private school globally honored to conduct year-end exams. We will be administering all the tests for our students and for Russian students from Phuket’s international schools or those studying online,” Kamilla explains.

Russvet is also a great helper for Russian kids beginning their studies at international schools. Being able to speak to those children in their native language turned out to be handy for teaching English!

“Russvet provides English classes to international school students from Russia so they can improve their command of the language to achieve the best academic success in every field of the curriculum. We teach English to them in an easy-to-grasp manner and prepare them for admission to international schools and universities,” Kamilla says.

Day-to-day routines at Russvet are not much different from any other school, yet significant emphasis is put on creating a familiar environment for kids who have just moved to Phuket. Russvet also invites the broader community to dive into Russian traditions and culture at big school festivals.

“The key mission of the school is to make quality Russian education available Russian kids abroad and to serve any person interested in learning more about the Russian language and culture,” Kamilla and Nadezhda say.
