Harmony embodied

Layan Verde redefines living in unity with nature

Setting a new goal can be challenging when you’ve achieved a lot. With their hotel and condo successfully operating and the most sophisticated eco-villas nearing completion, Villa Carte Group faced the challenge of finding what to create next. Then the proud holders of Thailand’s first Edge Advance certificate decided to build… history.

This vision materialized in Layan Verde, an integrated residential and resort development on Phuket’s most sought-after west coast. The Edge Advance certificate emphasizes sustainability, and Layan Verde decided to raise the bar and exemplify the idea of harmony with nature.

“Traveling the world and admiring diverse cutting-edge projects, I wondered what Phuket’s unique development should be. I got enthusiastic about the idea of our amazing island deserving a special landmark. Now, you are witnessing history being born, a true Phuket hallmark, Layan Verde,” says Vadim Bukhalov, the visionary behind the project.

Seaside land is a rare gem in Phuket, but the Layan Verde team found a perfect green hill covered with lush rainforests some 800 meters from the sea. The maiden jungle looked just perfect, as the team’s goal was to create a resort environment integrated into nature, partially hidden in the wild.

Previous eco-development experience made clear one pertinent idea: nothing is impossible, though unique challenges call for unique skills. This led to a partnership with Dewan, an architecture firm listed among the world’s top 50 and recognized with an array of prestigious awards. Landscape design was entrusted to Shma, a Bangkok-based company with an impressive record of extraordinary projects and over a dozen awards from the Thai Association of Landscape Architects (TALA) in 2021 alone.

“Instead of designing buildings, we decided to design an environment encouraging people to enjoy nature. We aimed to create not just a set of structures but a landmark embodying a unique lifestyle,” says Dewan’s Chief Architect Mohammed Adib.

Tasked with reflecting the essence of Phuket, the Shma team led by Co-Founder Namchai Saensupha studied the island’s history, creating a concept uniting all its hidden and known treasures of the Andaman Pearl – beaches, hills, jungle, creeks, caves and waterfalls.

Visitors to Layan Verde will feel like explorers disembarking on the shores of the Andaman Pearl and ascending a hill to discover amazing natural treasures, culminating in a breathtaking view from the hilltop over a waterfall.

Layan Verde’s master plan comprises 15 buildings arranged as a terrace on the slope of a hill, utilizing soft lines and green vegetation across 48 rai or 78,000 sqm of land.

From the aesthetic side, the eco-design is close to magic. Aerial images make a viewer doubt the objects are even man-made. From the practical point, the Edge Advance certification ensures phenomenal minimization of environmental footprint with incredible gain in comfort and quality of life. Think “smart home” systems in every residence, think inverter conditioners, think water recycling and re-using – it is all there and more.

The mixed-use development includes a five-star branded hotel and condominium complex (for residential and investment purposes), a four-star branded hotel and condominium complex (similarly, for residential and investment purposes); and a common area with top-level amenities, including Phuket’s first shopping mall within a project of this type.

Services are strategically distributed across the area, ensuring that each of the 1,000 units has dining, fitness, and leisure options nearby. Layan Verde’s heart and soul, the Ocean Club with a sea-view infinity pool, restaurants, and bars, will welcome visitors at the entrance.

Hidden in lush tropical greenery are three spa centers with jacuzzis, saunas, massages, countless swimming pools, two kids’ clubs, and recreational areas.

As a pet-friendly development, Layan Verde features designated infrastructure for cats and dogs, from walking areas to paw washing stations and a grooming salon, to name a few.

“We wanted to create a destination where people from all over the island would come. We wanted to create an attraction keeping the project alive throughout the year,” says Mohammed Adib of Dewan.

It goes without saying that Layan Verde greatly benefits from its sought-after location. Just south of the mini-city, residents and guests can enjoy Laguna Phuket’s amenities, including golf, dining, leisure, and more. To the west, the white sands of Bang Tao, Layan, and Leypang beaches await. To the north and east, the protected areas of Sirinat National Park anticipate listing among UNESCO sites. It’s challenging to think of a more iconic location for Phuket’s upcoming icon.
